There is a good chance that you’ve wondered, “Does GroupMe say if you screenshot?” Especially if you’ve ever seen an interesting screenshot of something you’re working on, but haven’t been sure whether you should share it. While screenshotting a message may be tempting, it can be a bit of a privacy nightmare. Fortunately, the platform does offer a number of privacy options.

Privacy concerns with screenshots
A new scandal has surfaced over GroupMe and screenshots. A group of students has sent Bwog screenshots from 2014 to this week, showing male members making racist and homophobic comments and mocking women’s appearances. They have also been making sexual jokes and other unsavory interactions. The team has launched an investigation, and will no longer compete at a wrestling meet this weekend. For now, they are taking the screenshots down.
Messages are not deleted if a user is blocked
Blocking a user will stop them from sending or receiving group messages, but not from participating in a group chat. You can view their messages in the group chat, but they will not receive DMs. To unblock someone from a GroupMe group, go to the Settings tab of the GroupMe app and choose “unblock” from the drop-down menu. You will have to do this every time you want to send or receive a message.
Once a user is blocked, they cannot add or remove themselves from a group. But this does not mean that all messages are deleted. You can restore the deleted account after 48 hours. You can also unblock the contact you block by clicking on their avatar and then enabling “unblock” on the confirmation window. However, if the user is blocked, GroupMe messages will not be deleted.
Messages are not deleted if a user is unmuted
You can’t delete GroupMe messages if a user is unmute, but there are some ways to block them. The most common way to block group messages is to mute the user, which makes it harder to track down the sender of spam. Luckily, Google takes the spam threat more seriously than any other Android phone manufacturer. It has implemented blocking features in its Messages app.
One way to get around this is to set the “mute” feature in GroupMe. By default, users who are in groups can’t mute each other. Muting a user doesn’t remove their messages, but it makes them invisible to new users. If you turn off notifications, GroupMe only sends you text notifications. Depending on your settings, you may not even know you’ve been unmuted.
Messages are not deleted if a user is deleted from a group
When a user is removed from a group, his or her messages and images will be removed. You can delete the group by swiping left on the group avatar or clicking on the Settings menu in the group. To delete a group, tap on the settings button, then tap the Leave Group or End Group option. If you don’t want your messages to be deleted, you can always rejoin the group.
Deleted messages in GroupMe can’t be recovered, which can be problematic if you are constantly changing locations or forgetting where you left your phone. For this reason, it’s important to choose a time frame for when you want to delete your messages. For example, if you are busy at work, you can set your phone to turn off notifications while you are working. However, you’ll have to log out and sign back in to view your messages.
