World of Warcraft Pop Culture References

World of Warcraft is a wildly popular MMO that has made pop culture an integral part of its content. In addition to countless pop culture references, the game also has its own achievements and items. The game’s world is shaped by homages to popular culture, from Rambo to Indiana Jones. Pop culture references are woven into the fabric of the game, and players can enjoy them without noticing.

Shadowlands Witcher

The latest expansion to the MMORPG World of Warcraft features hidden Easter Eggs and pop culture references. These references range from small gestures to more significant nods to popular culture fads. Many of the references are to fantasy properties or movies. This time, the developers included a song from the wildly popular The Witcher series. This song was made famous by a certain video game character.

As the game nears its release date, it’s time for players to prepare for the new adventure. As the game reaches its mid-way point in the game’s development cycle, it’s influenced by external factors, especially since the release of Shadowlands two years ago. In addition, the recent lawsuit filed against Blizzard for alleged sexual harassment in the workplace prompted the developers to scrub the game of old references. However, this effort may be put to waste if the game fails to make its debut in the near future.

Star Wars

One of the most unique and fun things about World of Warcraft is the numerous pop culture references it contains. Some of these references are popular, while others are more obscure. In Stormwind City, for example, you can find a place called Un’Goro Crater, home to gorillas, dinosaurs, and reptilian creatures. There are even references to Star Wars, including the infamous Death Star.

One notable example of a Star Wars reference in World of Warcraft is an NPC named Farmer Kent. In Star Wars, Kenobi’s father, Obi-Wan, gave Luke the famous blue lightsaber of Darth Vader, which he eventually lost during the events of The Empire Strikes Back. In World of Warcraft, the NPCs Xiggs Fuselighter, and Farmer Kent are both named after characters from the movies.

Godzilla

While Godzilla may be a mythical creature, he is very much a part of World of Warcraft pop culture references. For example, there are references to the movie Godzilla, and even an episode of South Park is devoted to the game. The creators of South Park have collaborated with Blizzard Entertainment to make a World of Warcraft episode. It seems as though the show isn’t the only pop culture reference for the game, but it is certainly a popular one.

While many people may not realize it, the movie franchise that Godzilla is based on is actually quite long, with 38 movies across three studios. The original Godzilla movie was released in the US in 1956. This movie featured Raymond Burr, but was probably not released on a midnight screen. It is, however, the only movie to incorporate Godzilla into World of Warcraft, so we can expect it to make an appearance in the game.

Pulp Fiction

While watching a movie, it’s hard not to notice the references to Pulp Fiction that pop up in World of Warcraft. The song “What Happens in Azeroth Stays in Azeroth” by That’s Outrageous!, a band that formed in 2010 and broke up three years later, has become a pop culture phenomenon. However, the lyrics aren’t directly referencing the movie, though the two may be connected in some way.

Superman

You may not realize it, but there are a number of Superman pop culture references in World of Warcats. You might have already noticed that the Warrior class is featured in raiding, and the name Manofsteel sounds like Superman. This is a clear reference to the super hero, as his armor closely resembles that of Superman. The character even has a red cape!

The game even has its own version of Superman. In World of Warcraft, the villain General Zod is inspired by Superman II, with a meglomaniac voice that uses the phrase “bring them to their knees”. Another Superman pop culture reference in the game is the Metallo character in the Last Son of Metallo, which is an iconic character from the movie. However, the character is not fully rooted in popular culture.

Terminator

Aside from the T-800 in the game, there are several other references to Terminator in the game. In addition to the T-800, a character named “Officer Brady” makes an appearance. His character name is based on Arnie’s character from the 1991 film. The character also has a reference to the “Godzilla March” theme from the film. Another Terminator pop culture reference is the weapon master in Stormwind City.
