The Unholy DK’s Dual Wield talent has been in the frost tree for 11 years. This talent was always in the frost tree because the frost tree focuses on 2h DPS. That changed when a new talent came out: Frost Spec. So, what should you do? First, check out your talent tree. If it has the Frost Spec talent, then you can get Dual Wield.

If you’re wondering whether dual wielding as an Unholy DK is better for your DPS, think again. While dual wielding will result in more damage overall, it doesn’t do enough to make it worthwhile. It’s far better to concentrate your DPS elsewhere. This article will discuss some pros and cons of dual wielding and how it can be better used.
If you’re playing as an unholy DPS, you’ve probably tried experimenting with dual wielding and found it to be very difficult. This was due to the fact that Blizzard nerfed it within the last few patches. It’s a shame to see this change, as dual wielding gives your character a huge advantage in some fights.
Trees
Dual Wield Unholy is a new spec added to Cataclysm. While it can be just as viable as a standard 2H Unholy build, the benefits of Dual Wield are greater than that of the frost tree. For one thing, sudden Doom only procs off of main-hand weapon strikes. Dual-wielding Unholy is more efficient at maximizing damage and AOE.
Trees can be dual wielded in the Unholy tree, but not every talent can be dual wielded as an Unholy DK. A DK’s DPS will often pull aggro from other tanking classes. It’s important to be geared up for both roles to maximize your DPS. Frost has the most effective avoidance, and is an excellent choice for tanks. It also has a decent amount of AoE, which is essential when dealing with multiple targets. The auto-crit Howling Blast is well worth tons of threat in most situations.
Trinkets
Unholy DKs have a few unique characteristics that make them great for dual-wielding, and there are a few trinkets you should use to make them feel even better. Fortunately, there are several options that are both effective and affordable. The Inscrutable Quantum Device is the most important of these, and it stands out from the other trinkets due to its high DPS and synergy with Army of the Dead.
The newest version of the Frost DK talent has some very useful procs, and you can even reduce the duration of your disarm. As an Unholy DK, you can also use the Reaper’s Harvest trinket for huge damage output while Two-Handed Frost. Many theorycrafters lamented the loss of Dual-Wield Frost and the weak AoE it had, but the newest version has many great new benefits.
Build
The first thing to remember about a DW Unholy is that while it draws its power from diseases and spells, its weapon damage is also significant. While weapon damage is still an important factor in PVP, this spec doesn’t have full DPS. That being said, it’s still one of the best options for those who like a creepy, fast, and versatile character.
To start, you’ll need a set of legplates. Fortunately, there are a few options available for this. One way is to drop the Eagle Ray Cloak on Commander Ulthok in the heroic Throne of Tides. This set contains two gem slots and has a high critical strike rating. Another option is the Shadow of the Past, which is a JP set that drops off Glubtok in heroic Deadmines. This set is also a good choice if you want a frost death knight dual wield. Finally, you can equip the Burned Gatherings from Karsh Steelbender in heroic Blackrock Caverns. This set also provides high haste and critical strike, making it a good choice if you want a frost death knight dual-wie
Pet
Previously known as a Runic Power dump, Death Coil has been reworked to have new procs. Sudden Doom is now part of the Unholy tier, and now has a 15% chance to proc off auto attacks. Sudden Doom was previously a blood-specific talent, so it’s important to use it to its full potential.
In addition to being extremely powerful, blood also has excellent survivability. It has a very short downtime between fights, which is important if you’re trying to kill mooks with your DPS. However, if you’re looking for a fast, creepy DPS, this pet will not be for you. It has a base health of 85%, so you won’t be able to kill a mook quickly. Moreover, blood will not do well in dungeons because it’s not very fast.
