Sylvanas Windrunner: Edge of Night by Dave Kosak
The latest short story from the Leaders of Azeroth series is Edge of Night. It follows the Forsaken queen Lady Sylvanas as she guides her people through the chaos following the fall of the Lich King. Author Dave Kosak gives us a look at the character and how it comes to be such a strong leader. The story also explores Sylvanas’s emotional state after Arthas’s death.
The story begins after the defeat of the Lich King in Ulduar, and ends with the Bloodsworn being forced to flee from the icy wastes. In the aftermath of this defeat, Sylvanas betrays his fellow Night Elves to save their souls. However, as punishment for his actions, Sylvanas winds up reliving his crimes by roaming the Maw and rescuing souls from the depths.
Calia Menethil
One of the most intriguing characters in World of Warcraft is the lightforged forsaken, Calia Menethil. She is a faerie hunter, who is a close friend of Derek Proudmoore. Derek is the big brother of Lady Jaina Proudmoore. When Derek meets Calia, she asks him about the war between the Forsaken and the Horde. She finds out that the conflict is over, but it doesn’t seem that way.
During the Fourth War, Calia was Arthas’ long-lost sister. After her father’s death, she and Derek had been helping the newly turned undead settle into their new life. The two hoped to show them a better future and help them adjust to their new lives. In the comic, Calia mentions that she had a daughter, which could explain the mysterious rift in her family’s history.
Arthas
Arthas Menethil is the most famous character in the World of Warcraft universe, and his comic series in the World of the Elder Scrolls Online continues this tradition. Born four years before the First War, he is the son of King Terenas Menethil II and Queen Lianne. He is the ruler of Lordaeron and has fallen in love with Jaina Proudmoore. As a child, he trained under Muradin Bronzebeard and learned the ways of the light from Uther the Lightbringer.
While he was in Andorhal, Arthas was tasked by the Legion to gather the members of the Cult of the Damned, who aided him. The Cult members were needed to reanimate Kel’Thuzad, but it took a lot of power to do so. Thankfully, Arthas was able to retrieve Kel’Thuzad’s corpse and take it to Mal’Ganis, who was able to defeat the undead lord.
Khadgar
If you are a fan of the World of Warcraft series or comic books, you may have seen the story of Khadgar. This young mage grew up without his parents. He did not understand their reasons for leaving, but he was still a bright and talented young man who enjoyed reading and making friends. When he became old enough, he received his own room in Dalaran. He was also a talented artist, as well as a curious child. And it was said that he was gifted with knowing the right person to talk to at just the right time.
Though Khadgar has always had a slightly odd appearance, the character has aged considerably since the Warlords series. He’s also been obsessed with the downfall of Gul’dan. He’s only interacted with his skull once, but the comic still carries hints of his past. Khadgar is not Medivh, but he may be a Guardian. The Guardians have a specific goal, and Khadgar may be pursuing that mission.
Varian Wrynn
The storyline of World of Warcraft isn’t as clear-cut as in the game itself, and Varian Wrynn is no exception. He’s one of the most memorable characters of the game, but he was mostly absent from the base game and the first expansion, The Burning Crusade. His storyline was explored in various novels and comic books, but many casual World of Warcraft fans may have been unaware of him. But now, with the Legion comic series releasing, there’s more information to learn about Varian Wrynn than ever.
Varian’s origin story can be traced back to the era of the Second War. He joined the Alliance forces in their efforts to protect Stormwind from the elementals. His presence in the Trade District also gave the Alliance an opportunity to take down Kai’ju Gahz’rilla and Prince Sarsarun. Varian’s role in World of Warcraft Legion comics began with the event he was in.
Gul’dan
You may have seen the World of Warcraft Legion comic featuring Gul’dan, a dwarf with a terrible curse. His family and clan regarded him as a curse and beat him mercilessly as a child. Gul’dan was left alone in the Throne of Thunder and in the rain, and other voices began whispering. But how did this young dwarf end up with such a terrible curse?
The story begins with Gul’dan’s quest to bring the Broken Shore back from the depths of the ocean. He commanded his forces to search for the primary passageway and revealed the twisted spirits that had surrounded it. Once he had gathered the majority of his forces, he directed them to look for the Tomb of Sargeras, a sunken ruin where the Avatar of Sargeras was interred. Gul’dan was so powerful that he could kill anyone who came in contact with him, but his goal proved to be too great.
