The World of Warcraft community is hungry for more legacy server experiences. There’s no reason why this community shouldn’t be able to experience the best of the game as it was meant to be played. There are many servers that offer the best of both worlds – Nostalrius, Felmyst, Light’s Hope, Elysium, and more. Blizzard may unveil their plans for legacy servers at Blizzcon, which will take place on November 3-4, 2013.

Nostalrius

The Nostalrius World of Warcraft legacy server project was first conceived and developed by a group of dedicated World of Warcraft players. The goal of the project was to recreate the game prior to 2007, and Blizzard was quick to respond with a cease and desist order. Although Blizzard’s reaction to Nostalrius’s plight was swift, some people believe that Blizzard has hidden dirt on the Nostalrius team.

Viper argues that Nostalrius’ decision to give its code to Elysium was a mistake, destroying its cause for supporting legacy servers. Viper’s argument was similar to mine when Nostalrius announced that it was giving its code to Elysium. While it’s possible that some Nostalrius accounts were transferred to Elysium, it’s still strange to ask a separate server to stop using Nostalrius code.

Felmyst

A few years ago, Gummy52 and other players started a private server called Scriptcraft. It operated for five years without any issues. Gummy planned to keep his Felmyst server small and only move it if his hosting company asked him to. That plan was dashed when Blizzard’s legal team contacted him and told him to leave the project. Now, Gummy is mulling releasing the source code for Felmyst, but it is unlikely to happen until Blizzard gives Gummy permission.

Many World of Warcraft players long for the vanilla days. While the vanilla edition of the game remains popular, many fans still miss the old days of the game. Legacy servers are versions of the game that don’t include expansions or updates. Gummy52’s server reverted to the old version of the game just three days ago, when Blizzard sent Gummy52 a cease and desist letter.

Light’s Hope

While playing on Light’s Hope on the World of Warcraft legacy servers, you should exercise caution while master-looting. While the staff of Light’s Hope is generally friendly, you should still practice proper discipline. In many cases, your master-looting can result in you being punished. However, if you can provide proof of awarding, Light’s Hope staff may be able to resolve the matter.

After the scandal broke out, the core team members of the game started a new project and rebranded themselves as Light’s Hope. Currently, the servers are not functioning, but there are plans to re-launch them under the name of the Light’s Hope. While the backups saved most of the data, players may want to use the Light’s Hope project instead of the official World of Warcraft servers. The private servers are questionable alternatives for fans of the game. Blizzard is yet to implement the official servers, so legacy enthusiasts will have to wait a long time to return.

Besides the Elysium Project’s closure, Light’s Hope has also announced the restructuring of the team’s operations. The project’s team members plan to restructure around a new project, Light’s Hope. Among the allegations of deceitful practices are that a member of the team used his PayPal account to fund the server’s operations. This individual’s PayPal account was used under his own name so as not to be shut down by legal requests. As a result, a team member allegedly stole EUR2,000 from this account.

Elysium

Earlier this year, the developers behind the World of Warcraft legacy servers, Nostalrius, dissolved their servers in a bid to create an official successor to their old server, Elysium. The project’s members failed to respond to their demands for an official successor, and Blizzard did not reveal any official plans for a legacy server at BlizzCon 2017. Eventually, Nostalrius ceased operations and transferred its system to Elysium, where it is now in limbo.
