How to get to the mountains of Elden Ring? The map in the game doesn’t tell you where to go. In fact, there are caves and mines that are not accessible by normal means. This is a problem because the map is not designed to be speed-runnable. Rather, it’s designed to be explored in order to get to the final area, where you need two Great Runes to beat the boss.

Mountaintops of the Giants
To get to the Mountaintops of the Giant, head to the West portion of the map. From there, you will need to circle back east to find the map fragment. Head up the mountain past the enemy barricades of the Guardians’ Garrison to the giant chain bridge. The map fragment will be found beside the Site of Grace. The next section of the map is the Forge of Giants.
The Mountaintops of the Giants is divided into three subregions: West Mountaintops, East Mountaintops, and Consecrated Snowfield. The map contains numerous dungeons, points of interest, and NPCs scattered throughout. To the southwest, you can find the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins. If you are a new player, this area will be very difficult for you.
Altus Plateau
After you have obtained the Mountain Elden Ring, you must climb the Ruin-Strewn Precipice to reach the Altus Plateau. Once you reach the Plateau, you will be greeted by the friendly NPC Rya, who offers to teleport you to Volcano Manor on Mt. Gelmir. The best thing about Rya is that she cannot be killed and is a good way to make some gold.
The Altus Plateau is located northeast of Liurnia of the Lakes. It is the most direct way to reach the Royal Capital, but it is smaller than other open-world areas. You can access the Altus Plateau by using the elevator located right after you beat Magma Wyrm Makar. You can also access this region by using the Grand Lift of Dectus.
Temple of Eiglay
In the Temple of Eiglay in the mountains, you can find a large lava pool and an Iron Virgin hiding near a window. The Temple of Eiglay also contains a Missionary’s Cookbook, which can be found at the bottom of the stairs. The recipe for Holyproof Dried Liver can be found inside. A Crimson Tear Scarab helmet is located south of the wall.
The Volcano Manor is another optional area, but it is difficult to reach. You’ll have to kill the dangerous Tarnished in order to access Volcano Manor. First, you’ll have to kill the Abductor Virgin in the Raya Lucaria Academy. Once you’ve defeated the Abductor Virgin, you’ll then be able to move on to Volcano Manor and take on the dangerous Tarnished.
Grand Lift of Rold
The Grand Lift of Rold is a location in the game Elden Ring, which is found in the Leyndell Royal Capital. The Grand Lift is blocked from entering after the battle between Erdtree and Morgott the Omen King. However, Melina will tell you to explore the Forgotten Lands and Mountaintop of the Giants, which are located outside the city. There, you can pick up loot and fight against enemies.
To reach the Grand Lift, you must first defeat Morgott, a shardbearer. Morgott blocks the entrance to Erdtree, so you must kill him first. Melina will give you the Rold Medallion to operate the Grand Lift. When you have obtained the Rold Medallion, head east to the Grand Lift of Rold and use the elevator to reach the Forbidden Lands.
