Can you retreat and attack in the same turn? Well, this depends on what you’re trying to achieve. It makes no sense to retreat if you have six armies. And when you’re surrounded by only one army, why would you retreat? In this article, you’ll learn about this very important rule. You can also read about the different types of retreat and attack, including Paralyzed, Confused, and Asleep.

Asleep Pokemon
When you play a card, it is sometimes possible to retreat and attack on the same turn. This can happen when your Pokemon is Sleeping or when it is not able to attack on its own. You can use retreat to protect yourself, but you can’t use this move on an opponent’s Pokemon. The exception is when you are playing a card that has a Resistance ability. You can use retreat to protect yourself from attacks, but retreating is still an option for you if you don’t want to retreat.
If your opponent is using this move to prevent retreat, you can use a coin flip to wake your Pokemon. The result of this action will determine whether your Pokemon can retreat or attack. Alternatively, you can use the coin flip to allow your Sleeping Pokemon to retreat and attack in the same turn. If the flip results in heads, you can attack and retreat, and if the coin comes up tails, you can retreat your Pokemon and continue attacking.
Besides Retreat, you can also use the Switch ability to change your Pokemon during an attack. While retreating, you will lose the Active Pokemon, but you can switch to a different Pokemon. Mienshao from Furious Fists is a good example. Then again, you can’t retreat an Active Pokemon during an attack. However, if your Pokemon is already in retreat, you can use the switch ability to switch to another one and use it on that turn.
Paralyzed Pokemon
When a Pokemon is Asleep, it cannot retreat or attack. To activate it, the player needs to flip a coin. When the coin is on the left, the Pokemon is Asleep, while a flip of a coin indicates that it is Paralyzed. Once a Pokemon is Asleep, it cannot retreat or attack. The Pokemon must be in the Bench to wake up.
The Poison effect takes 10 damage each time a Pokemon takes damage. A Poison marker must be attached to a Pokemon to be poisoned. The Pokemon takes damage equal to its health value. If the coin falls in the head, the Pokemon will attack. It also loses all its attached cards. If it is not knocked out during a player’s turn, it will retreat and attack in the next turn.
In addition to attacks, a Confused Pokemon can attack itself. When it attacks, it must flip a coin. If the coin lands on tails, the Pokemon can attack and retreat in the same turn. If it fails to retreat, the attacking Pokemon takes thirty damage. The Paralyzed Pokemon can’t retreat and attack in the same turn unless it has a special ability to allow it to attack or retreat. This condition can last until the end of a player’s turn.
Confused Pokemon
The Confused Special Condition is a powerful ability that makes your Pokemon unable to retreat or attack. It works by flipping a coin. If it is heads, the attack proceeds as normal. If it is tails, the attack ends. If the coin is tails, it remains Confused. You cannot retreat or attack a Confused Pokemon unless you use an Energy card to cure it.
A Confused Pokemon deals 30 damage to itself, and you must flip a coin to find out whether it can attack or retreat. You can cure this effect by retreating to the bench, using a Trainer card, or by changing one of your Pokemon’s Special Conditions. The only other way to cure a Confused Pokemon is to equip it with a new Special Condition or a Paralyzed Special Condition. Confused Pokemon cannot retreat or attack for one turn, and will also have a Poison Marker attached to them. This can be cured by using a new Special Condition or by reversing the effects of an item.
If a player is using a Confused Pokemon to combat an opponent, they must consider whether the attack will harm a benched Pokemon. However, this is not always possible and you may find yourself with an attack that will be fatal. Alternatively, you can retreat a Confused Pokemon and then attack in the same turn, as long as it is not a Paralyzed or Confused Pokemon.
