Did you know that May the Fourth is Star Wars Day? Initially an annual celebration, it’s based on the movie date of May 4th. Despite its unusual name, the day is actually a play on the phrase “May the Force be with you.” Interestingly, Han Solo uttered the line over a dozen times throughout the series, including in the 1977 film A New Hope. Today, fans all over the world can celebrate Star Wars Day with their favorite characters.

May the force be with you
The science fiction franchise Star Wars has become one of the most popular franchises ever created, and May the fourth is the perfect day to celebrate it. The movie franchise began in 1977 with the release of Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope. It soon branched out to include television shows, comic books, and theme parks. Now, fans gather all over the world to celebrate this annual holiday. If you’re a fan of the films, you can even dress up as a favorite Star Wars character to celebrate this special day. The force is with you on Star Wars Day!
The phrase originated in the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV, “A New Hope.” It first appeared in the film when General Jan Dodonna uses it toward Rebel pilots. Later in the movie, Han Solo says it to Luke Skywalker. However, Skywalker doesn’t seem to believe him. The phrase has also been used in British politics. In 1994, Harry Cohen made a joke about it during a House of Commons discussion.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Star Wars fans will be happy to hear that the new standalone film about former Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi will be premiering on Disney+ on May 27. The story revolves around the Galactic Empire, former allies turned enemies, and the wrath of the Emperor. In the trailer, we can see Obi-Wan mimicking his father’s podracing moves.
Throughout the series, Obi-Wan is frequently mentioned as a character. For instance, in the 2016 film Rogue One, the Rebel Alliance leader Mon Mothma has a conversation with Senator Bail Organa in which the two discuss the fate of a Jedi Knight who has been in hiding since the fall of the Republic. In the scene, Obi-Wan’s name is implicitly mentioned as the one who delivered the Death Star plans to the Jedi Knight.
Luke Skywalker
There’s been much speculation about Luke Skywalker’s return to the Star Wars universe. Mark Hamill, who played the role in The Mandalorian, was de-aged and could now play the character again, but some fans are hoping to see Mark Hamill return as the hero. But who would play the part of the young Luke Skywalker? Here are some of the most likely candidates.
George Lucas’ Star Wars films have become part of American pop culture. The first movie, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, was released in 1977 and became an overnight sensation. Two sequels followed, in 1981 and 1983. A prequel trilogy followed in 1999, while the fifth and final movie will debut in 2015.
Darth Vader
There are a lot of ways to tell the date, but one of my favorites is to have Darth Vader guess what day it is! The original trilogy is very calming, but in Empire, Darth Vader exhibits his Dark Side briefly. I hope he has a tie to wear on Father’s Day! I’ll make sure that I find one with palm trees and polka dots!
There’s a legend that the name Darth Vader actually means “Dark Father” in Dutch. This is because the Dutch words for father and dark are both pronounced “Vaah-der.” In this story, Vaader is Luke’s father, and the name Darth means “dark father.”
Leia Organa
During the early days of the New Republic, Leia Organa’s life was full of uncertainty, including family emergencies and disagreements with the government. However, the liberation of Kashyyyk and peace talks with former Imperial leaders kept progress on track. The birth of Ben Solo, a son of Leia and Han Solo, was a milestone for both parents. Ben developed natural force powers and was soon off training with his uncle, but Leia enjoyed a brief family life in the New Republic.
The movie also explores Leia’s dark family history. Luke and Leia are siblings, but her mother is a Sith Lord. She was forced to confront her family’s past, but she chose to embrace her heritage and fight for the galaxy. She also realized that she was better off as a senator than she’d been as a rebel. Leia’s journey in the Empire made her a stronger and more determined leader.
