One question lingers: did David really die in the Travelers? The answer may depend on your interpretation of the plot. The show is highly regarded by critics, but there is one glaring flaw in the story: David’s death was faked! The fact that Marcy was “rebooting” her consciousness is insinuating that she is a new Traveler. The storyline of Travelers is shaky at best, but it has a few good elements to back it up.

David’s death
In the season two finale of Travelers, David is kidnapped and beaten worse than the other hostages. He is also forced to make a video for Travelers and is held captive for 31 hours. The series shows that David is often beaten and is mentally abused. In the series, David is rescued twice: once by Philip and then again by Marcy. During the episodes in which David is kidnapped, he tries to save Marcy and once again reaches for the gun to take his life.
In season three, we saw Marcy and David’s relationship in a much better light than it is in reality. The series’ characters have a strong bond, and Marcy’s love for David is evident in her actions and words. David’s suicide is not a final decision, but an emotional one, and Marcy considered it every season. Philip’s decision to intervene was the right one. This is the only way to prevent David’s death in the series.
Although David and Marcy met on a bus on their way to work, their connection existed before 3569. David had different facets with each woman, and the original Marcy and David could live a normal life. However, in Star Trek, protocol comes first, and he cannot discuss his past with anyone. However, David and Marcy could still be reunited, and this may be a hint to another season.
Dr. Delaney’s complicity
During the events of “Travelers,” Dr. Delaney has developed powerful antimatter and has kept it in a protective facility. Major Gleason does not believe that this antimatter is safe, and he demands to talk to Dr. Delaney later. However, Delaney does not agree, as his backups cannot last more than a few hours.
The team has a plan to steal antimatter from a military convoy. Despite the evidence presented to them, Delaney believes the antimatter does not exist and therefore does not need to be destroyed. He also tells Dr. Delaney that he will not be the last one to do this. He wants antimatter out of the hands of the military and off the front page of newspapers.
In the same way, he praised poor urban mothers and their holy love of children. But he did not condemn cruck-addicted mothers, who sold their children’s food stamps to buy the drug. Yet, he was a Catholic, and believed that Christ’s teachings were the only way to serve others. But his piety was the cause of his troubles in the prison.
Marcy’s choice to “reboot” her consciousness
The decision to’reboot’ Marcy’s consciousness after David’s death in travelers is an interesting one. The choice is ultimately a toss-up between her life and the death of David. Although Marcy is aware of both options, she feels more strongly about the latter. She decides to “reboot” her consciousness in order to forget about the events of season one.
The series begins with a premise that Marcy was dying when David died, resulting from a congenital brain disorder. Then, Grace arrives to repair her. Marcy’s original self, like David, wanted to die rather than lose memories of her life with David. Grace doesn’t give Marcy this option, and she eventually resents it.
Ultimately, the choice was ultimately between David and Marcy. In the original timeline, David and Marcy were supposed to meet in 3569. Despite the Travelers, they still had a connection in 3569. Because their hearts were so alike, they decided to reunite in travelers. The new Marcy is very similar to the original Marcy, but she still needed her old friend, David. In S2 Ep8, 21C, David was the one who set Marcy up with a life. In her new timeline, Marcy is intellectually disabled and still needs David. Marcy is unable to do so, but she still has the option of “rebooting” her consciousness.
It may not be canon, as David’s death in Travelers was a foreshadowed event from season one to season three. If it does, it may be a simple “happy ending” with no further repercussions. The new Marcy also shares some traits with the Host-Marcy, which is why the season has included general hints of something going on with the team.
