Did the film Shadow of Mordor come first? Probably not. But I’m curious to know what went into its creation. Is this an accurate portrayal of Middle-earth? And how is it related to The Lord of the Rings? I’ve seen a lot of opinions on the matter, and this article will explain why Shadow of Mordor might have come first. This article will also touch upon Gollum, The Hobbit, and Shadow of War.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
If you loved The Lord of the Rings trilogy, you’ll likely want to play the video game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordoria. Developed by Monolith Productions, this game is based on the Tolkien legendarium. It takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies, and follows Talion, a Gondorian ranger. In the game, you will use the Ring of Power to control an army powerful enough to take down Sauron and save the world.
Unlike The Lord of the Rings, which you can buy straight from the publisher, Shadow of Mordor is not a prequel. Although these two games are based on the same source material, they are not related and may be played in any order. As such, it is not necessary to play them in sequence. While the games share similar mechanics and settings, they have little in common.
Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Gollum, the dwarven sprite from Lord of the Rings, escaped from his prison cell in Barad-dur, the capital city of Sauron’s land of Mordor. Apparently, Sauron knew that Gollum would seek revenge on his master and hoped that he would be able to trick spies into finding the One Ring. Gollum was able to escape by saying two infamous words: “I am a bloodhound.” In fact, Gollum was only interested in one thing, revenge.
While the original version of the movie had Gollum at over six hundred years old, the sequel trimmed his age to about five hundred and fifty years. Gollum’s age is based on his appearance in The Hobbit and the Silmarillion, but his actual age was five hundred years older than that. Some sources suggest that Gollum’s age was reduced because of Sauron’s exit from Mirkwood in 2063 T.A., but that may not be the case.
The Hobbit
There are many similarities between The Hobbit and The Shadow of Mordor, and the two films often borrow each other’s wit. Both films feature humor, with Celebrimbor appearing to Talion when he is looking into the distance or making a big decision. Though these two films are set in Middle-Earth, the relationship between the two characters is quite different. While the relationship between the two characters is largely sarcastic, there are some points in which the characters are more emotionally connected.
While the movies and the games are great adaptations of Tolkien’s works, Shadow of Mordor does a more thorough job of honoring the source material and pushing the games to do something new. The developers have more creative license to expand the world, but still must meet certain standards. The game’s plot is based on the adventures of the ranger Talion, who is killed and brought back to life by the spirit of a powerful wraith called Sauron. Both of these wraiths have their own personalities and are capable of bringing great fear to his enemies.
Shadow of War
There are many great features of Shadow of War, but this action RPG also suffers from too much stuff. The map is littered with icons for missions and orc captains. There’s a ton of stuff to collect, and trying to figure out what you want to do next can become quite a challenge. The missions themselves tend to be repetitive battles or stealth missions, or simply quests that you must complete to find an object. The missions in Shadow of War also tend to be repetitive, with little reward for progress.
This action RPG follows two protagonists: the human ranger Talion and the elf wraith Celebrimbor. Talion can’t die, and is on a never-ending quest for revenge. Talion is helped along the way by Celebrimbor, an elf spirit who forged the Ring of Power and lends it to Talion. The game is loosely based on Lord of the Rings canon, but it plays up the fantasy elements of the lord of the rings and combines them into a unique world with more than a few new twists.
