‘Near-death clairvoyance’
This movie is a twisted tale of fate. A girl’s life is changed forever after she is injured in a car accident. Characters in the movie vs the book
The movie makes a few notable changes from the book. The movie doesn’t have a grandpa that lauds Mia’s character after her live audition and calls Juilliard a “stupid school” because they rejected her. In the book, Teddy never refers to Mia as his mother, although we see her as such throughout the film. In the movie, Mia’s mother is still present but she’s not a central character.
The movie takes place after Mia’s accident. The book opens with her in a coma after a car accident. This changes Mia’s feelings about her boyfriend dramatically. Although she still loves Adam, the story moves at a different pace. In the book, Mia is deeply in love with Adam but confused about whether to pursue her passion for music or pursue her dreams of attending Julliard. The movie also makes Adam’s desire to stay in Oregon seem a little too unrealistic at first.
