The Elden Ring comes with a special mount – a horse. While this mount isn’t necessary for the game, it does make manoeuvrability much easier and limits your actions. Using the horse will allow you to double jump, clear large gaps, and carry Flasks. Here are a few ways you can summon a horse. But first, let’s look at how to summon the mount with the keyboard.

Spectral Steed Whistle

If you want to summon a spectral steed, you’ll need to use the Spectral Steed Whistle, a key item in Elden Ring. You can find Melina in the Site of Grace and the Gatefront, and you’ll need to take her to Erdtree, where you can use the Spectral Steed Whistle.

The Spectral Steed Whistle can be used with an Xbox or PlayStation controller. To use it, press the Square button. However, it can be a bit difficult to control, so you may want to try using the trigger buttons for damage instead. You can also use the R1 or L1 button to attack, though it’s not recommended. It’s better to use a two-handed weapon if you can, but it’s not necessary.

The Spectral Steed Whistle is the most powerful weapon in the Elder Ring. It summons a spectral steed, Torrent. The Spectral Steed Whistle is a useful item when leveling, because it’s a handy vehicle for fast transport or escaping battles. You can equip it to your toolkit or pouch.

Torrent

As you progress through the game, you’ll be able to revive the spectral steed you’ve ridden. To do this, you’ll need one Sacred Flask per revive and the Spectral Steed Whistle. Once revived, you can ride the spectral steed around the world and navigate it safely. Torrent has a limited amount of HP and is vulnerable to fast travel, but it can still be revived.

If you have never used a spectral horse before, you can summon Torrent through the Church of Elleh. You can summon the spectral beast through the spirit caller, which you can receive from Renna in the Church of Elleh. While summoning the Torrent, keep in mind that you won’t be able to enter dungeons or fight inside the crypts when you don’t have a spectral horse.

Spirit Springs

In Elder Ring, you’ll need to jump across many different places. This skill will allow you to jump huge distances. Spirit Springs are large columns of air that you can use to reach higher ground and inaccessible areas. You can also use them to steer your Torrent. The best way to use them is to face the area you’re trying to reach and jump. Using them will help you avoid falling, too. However, they’re not entirely safe.

The good news is that you can jump from a Spirit Spring without incurring fall damage. Unlike horseback riding, however, you cannot use the Spectral Steed Whistle to summon a spirit horse. Alternatively, you can use the X/A button to jump onto a Spirit Spring. Riding a Spirit Spring also doesn’t cause you to fall, so you can easily jump to great heights while protecting yourself with a Spectral Steed Whistle.

Mounted combat

One of the most awaited features of The Elder Ring is its mount. While the game will feature a spectral transport, the mount is much more than that. Most of the game’s overworld encounters are designed for mounted combat. Using a mount will allow you to escape from tougher battles and travel to the next area easily. This mechanic has been in development since the Demon’s Souls series, and it’s definitely something that gamers are looking forward to in Elder Ring.

Elden Ring players will also lack access to the Parthian Shot, a maneuver normally reserved for light cavalry. This involves shooting arrows backwards over the horse’s flanks. This makes it much more difficult to shoot enemies in the back. Instead, PCs will have to circle around the enemy on horseback, which means they can’t do their Parthian Shot. But that’s not all: the parthian shot also requires great control and precision to be effective.
