If you use a Mac, you should know how to restart it. On the top left of your screen, click on the Apple icon. A popup window will open with three restart options and one shut down option. To restart your Mac, click the eject button on the keypad’s top row. This button is the upward-facing arrow on a thin line. When a popup window appears, click “restart” and then choose the appropriate operating system from the menu.

Log out of the current user account
If you’re not using a mouse to operate your Mac, you can still log out of the current user account. If you have been logged in for a long time, logging out can help protect your information from being accessed by others. The Mac also has a system called accounts, which is described in Chapter 13.
If you’ve logged out of the current user account, you can shutdown your Mac by pressing the Command-Shift-Option-Q keyboard combination. This will automatically log you out of your Mac account without requiring your input. Holding down Shift+Q or Option-Alt-Del keys will also log you out of your current user account and shut down your Mac.
You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl-Shift-Esc, which will bring up the Task Manager. Click on the “Users” tab in the Task Manager, then select “Sign Out.” You can also right-click a user account to sign out. Keep in mind that logging out will cause some inconveniences. You’ll lose access to various apps, such as FaceTime and iCloud.
When you’re finished with your current use, it’s time to log out. Windows 10 will automatically sign you out of your current user account without warning. However, if you’re using Linux, you can try the Ctrl-Alt-Del keyboard combination to sign out of your current user account. However, this method doesn’t work with MacOS 10.
Force shut down
If you can’t interact with your Mac’s screen, you might need to force shut down it. To force shut down a Mac without a mouse, hold down the power button on your MacBook until the screen turns black. If you don’t have the power button, you can press Cmd + Q to quit the current app and then Cmd + Tab to cycle between open apps. When the Mac has cooled down enough, try to press the power button briefly.
If you’re on a Mac, you can carry out the same steps on a PC. Press the Power button on the top right-hand corner of the keyboard. Holding this button for a few seconds will turn the MacBook off. Alternatively, you can press Command + Control + Option + Power to force shut down a Mac without a mouse. However, it is important to note that force shut down does not save any data.
To force shut down a Mac without a mouse, press the power button for about a second. You should then hear familiar Mac sounds. You can then release the power button. Then, wait for a few seconds and try again. You can use the same process for Mac minis. Make sure you don’t force shut down the machine by mistake. You could lose your unsaved documents, your open applications, or even your computer’s system files.
Force restart
If your Mac has gotten stuck in Safe Mode, you can force restart the system without saving documents or other settings. Alternatively, you can force restart a Mac without a mouse by long pressing the power button, which forces the Mac to reboot without saving any files or settings. This method works with both Macs with and without Touch ID buttons. If your Mac is not equipped with Touch ID, you can also force restart it by pressing the power button.
To start the restart procedure, you should remove the USB mouse. Otherwise, your Mac will restart without your input device. You can also try to force restart a Mac without a mouse by using the sudo shutdown -r n command from the Terminal. However, be aware that you may lose all your data if you force restart your Mac. Try to use this method only when your Mac is completely unresponsive.
Another way to force restart a Mac without a mouse is by holding the power button for five seconds. This will open a turn off dialog. You can then choose whether to shut down the Mac, restart, or put it to sleep. Alternatively, you can press the Power button while holding the Command and Control keys to put the Mac into sleep. If you can’t find any of these options, press Command+Option-Power and press the Spacebar to wake up the Mac’s screen.
