He plays power forward for Texas Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns have landed their second commitment of the 2017 class, a power forward from Minneapolis, MN. Jericho Sims has been playing basketball his entire life and has made a decision to play for the Longhorns after taking an official visit to Austin. Before deciding on Texas, Sims was considering the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Kansas Jayhawks, and Ohio State Buckeyes.
While Sims has not consistently shown off his scoring ability, his leaping ability has always caught the attention of scouts. He is 6 feet 10 inches tall and 245 pounds, but his jumps have made him stand out in college hoops. He recently measured 44.5 inches vertical, which tied his NBA-ready big man, Hamidou Diallo. In fact, his jump is so impressive that he is expected to be drafted in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Before being recruited by the NBA, Sims was a freshman at the University of Kansas. He averaged 5.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in 18.5 minutes. He was named to the All-Big 12 Tournament team after leading the Longhorns to their first ever postseason title. He finished the postseason with career highs of 21 points and 14 rebounds. His draft stock was projected to remain at the mid-teens level, but a strong showing at the NBA Combine should boost his draft stock.
He has a wingspan of 76 inches
Despite his undersized frame, Jericho Sims has impressive physical traits that should help him succeed in the NBA. At just six feet ten inches, he is a springy athlete who has impressive athleticism. In addition, he has a 44.5″ vertical wingspan that made him one of the top prospects in this draft. Combined with his athleticism, Sims can score at will from anywhere on the court.
While the NCAA isn’t a great place to develop a player’s overall game, Sims has the physical characteristics to thrive in the NBA. A former Cristo Rey Jesuit standout, Sims played four seasons at Texas before signing with Klutch Sports. He also showed off his athleticism during the NBA Combine, showing off a 44.5-inch vertical and 7-foot wingspan. Despite his lack of experience, he demonstrated his ability to score with authority and defend defenders with a strong frame.
He has an athleticism of 30 efficiency
At 6-foot-10 and 245″, Jericho Sims is undersized for an NBA center. However, GMs will quickly learn that Sims plays much bigger than his size. At Texas, he averaged seven rebounds per game and led the team in rebounding his senior year. However, Sims’s shooting range ends at the charge circle. He only shot 52.0% from the free-throw line as a senior, which is pretty average for a center his size.
Sims’ athleticism was highlighted at his pro day when he threw the ball off the backboard and dunk it. Sims jumped very high and caught the rim, which caused a dunk that appeared to strike his eye. Sims’s athleticism earned him some high-major college attention after he signed with Klutch Sports Group, which is run by LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul.
