I Have the Highground!

Which Star Wars character said the phrase “I have the highground!”? Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, or Vader? Let’s find out. Which character first uttered the phrase? Let’s begin with Obi-Wan Kenobi. He said “I have the high ground” during his battle with Luke Skywalker.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Despite a lot of controversy surrounding the use of the phrase, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s phrase “I have the highground” is one of the most memorable Star Wars quotes. His comment is so powerful that he utters it in the opening scene of the movie, before crashing into a Separatist ship and sweeping down to kill battle droids below. This statement is a nod to the fact that there are multiple instances in the Star Wars series in which the high ground was effective.

Though Obi-Wan Kenobi was a skilled swordsman, he often sought alternative ways to resolve conflicts. He became known as “The Negotiator,” a title he received when he was recruited by General Grievous. This phrase would eventually be used by him in the Ultimate Star Wars game. Having the title ‘The Negotiator’ for Obi-Wan Kenobi, he could evade the dangers of the dark side by using this strategy.

Kuiil

The infamous catchphrase “I have the highground” is associated with the fictional Star Wars character Kuiil. Kuiil is an alien from the Ugnaught race who has lived his life alone, except for one famous line. Kuiil, as seen in the popular television series The Mandalorian, has made it his mission to find a young alien known as “the child.”

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kuiil has the famous phrase “I have the highground” spoken by him. Nick Nolte performed Kuiil’s voice, recording his entire dialogue in one afternoon. His face was portrayed by animatronic puppet Misty Rosas. The face mask was used for her performance. However, Kuiil’s famous phrase became one of the most popular lines of dialogue in the film.

Anakin Skywalker

It is a well-known fact that Anakin Skywalker once uttered the phrase “I have the highground!” to himself. This phrase can also be used to describe a position of advantage in a fight, as the high ground gives you better vantage point and firing angles. Also, it makes it easier to observe your opponent’s movements. The phrase was popularized by George Lucas, who claimed that Anakin had the potential to be twice as powerful as Palpatine. After Anakin suffered from injuries sustained in his fight with Kenobi, Luke was given the opportunity to prove himself to be a more powerful opponent.

As a young man, Anakin Skywalker was a powerful Jedi Knight and a member of the Jedi Order. His popularity in the Clone Wars micro-series spawned a sequel trilogy titled, “Star Wars: Clone Wars.” Anakin becomes a Jedi Knight and is soon promoted to a General of the Clone Army under Palpatine’s influence. Anakin’s role in the series includes the capture of the Separatist-controlled fortress, the rescue of Jedi Master Saesee Tiin, and many other memorable moments.

Vader

In 1977, the original Star Wars movie was released and introduced the iconic Darth Vader and his antagonist Grand Moff Tarkin. The two portrayed by Peter Cushing and James Earl Jones, respectively, have become synonymous with the “Star Wars” franchise. While Vader’s line may not have been the most memorable one in the movie, it does have a profound effect on how audiences view the character.

During the Battle of Endor, Vader had just shaken hands with a young woman on the bridge, and thought to himself that she was someone he once knew. After all, the phrase “I have the highground!” has become synonymous with The Dark Side. This quote is from a 1974 rough draft of the movie. In 1976, Alan Dean Foster’s novelization of the movie uses Vader’s title as “Dark Lord of the Sith.” A similar reference is found in a 1977 Marvel Comics adaptation by Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin. In 1999, a fan film adaptation was released and the title was “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”
