If you’re a fan of the Star Wars movies, you’ve probably wondered where to begin when it comes to reading the Old Republic novels. While the books take place 25,000 years before the movies, they aren’t too far removed from the films. Hence, you won’t find familiar characters like the Jedi Council or Corellian fighters and freighters. However, reading them in chronological order can lead to Star Wars fatigue and burnout.

Death Troopers
A decade ago, the new novel, Death Troopers, was published. Star Wars fans weren’t looking forward to a new movie, live action television, or the expansion of the theme park. Still, the novel captured fans’ imagination and sparked a zombie mini bust by Gentle Giant. Now, fans of the franchise can’t get enough of these stories. Here are a few recommendations.
Light of the Jedi is a great introduction to the High Republic, while The Rising Storm continues many of the best storylines from the first book. It sees the villainous Nihil raid a high-profile Republic Fair. It contains scenes of absolute chaos and great character development. The Rising Storm is an engaging read that serves as the perfect middle novel in the first phase of the High Republic.
In addition to the canon Star Wars books, there are also the Star Wars Legends series. These are novels that make up additional parts of the timeline. For new fans of the franchise, it’s best to start with the canon novels or the earliest book of the “Legends” timeline. However, even if you’ve read the films, it might be confusing to know where to start.
Red Harvest

Though the novels do not have a common plot, many characters appear in more than one book. The chronological order of the novels is Revan, Deceived, Fatal Alliance, and Annihilation. There are also comics set in this time period, which take place over 20,000 years before the events in the original movie.
