World of Warcraft: The Last Guardian is the first tie-in novel for the third installment of the popular MMORPG, and it is the closest thing to a retelling of the war between Humans and Orcs. The novel follows the story of Khadgar, a magocratic young man from the city-state of Dalaran, who is chosen to become an apprentice of the legendary wizard Medivh, the last living mage in the known world. When Khadgar is given the task of cleaning Medivh’s library, he manages to accomplish the seemingly impossible task.

Book review
The Last Guardian is the closest thing we have to a retelling of the Warcraft trilogy. It features a magocratic city-state called Dalaran and its young magocrat, Khadgar. He is selected to be the apprentice of Medivh, the greatest wizard in the known world. The magocrat is given an impossible task: cleaning Medivh’s library. In a strange twist, Khadgar succeeds.
The Last Guardian is based on the bestselling electronic game by Blizzard Entertainment. The novel tells the story of a young paladin named Medivh, who is bestowed with godlike powers and fights the Burning Legion in secret. The author is a prolific writer and has written books set in other worlds. The book is packed with details about the world of Azeroth and its characters.
Characters
The story of World of Warcraft’s last guardian characters begins in ancient times, when a demonic force began to attack Azeroth. The original Guardians, known as the Order of Tirisfal, inherited their power and passed it on to the next guardian, who would then be able to protect Azeroth from further harm. But, in World of Warcraft, the last guardian characters are no longer as they were, and the threat of the Burning Legion is once again present.
The last Guardian of Tirisfal is Medivh, a powerful mage who had been inherited by his mother, who held the role for a very long time. His strictness, combined with his sense of humor, make him an interesting character to play, but he can also be a bit mysterious. Medivh disappears from his tower at random and reappears at will, confusing young Kahdgar.
Setting
The Last Guardian is a tie-in novel to the popular Warcraft III video game, and is perhaps the closest thing to a traditional retelling of the epic battle between Humans and Orcs. It stars Khadgar, a magocratic city-state from Dalaran who is selected as an apprentice to the greatest wizard in the known world, Medivh. He is given the seemingly impossible task of cleaning Medivh’s library, and succeeds.
The world of Azeroth is the setting of most of the Warcraft games, and most of the action takes place in the planet of Azeroth. Other planets include Draenor, Mardum, Xoroth, Nathreza, and K’aresh. In addition to the continents, the World of Warcraft universe contains other realms, including the Emerald Dream, the Elemental Planes, the Twisting Nether, and the Shadowlands.
Demons
The Last Guardian is a World of Warcraft book written by Jeff Grubb. While he hasn’t written the entire Warcraft series, his other works are very compelling. The author’s ability to create memorable character voices really sets The Last Guardian apart from other Warcraft books. Despite being written in 2002, The Last Guardian remains a classic. I highly recommend The Last Guardian.
The game begins with a story about the black dragon Wrathion, who travels to the city of Karazhan to find the departed Guardians of Tirisfal. There he meets the shade of Medivh, who encourages him to build a new legacy. Medivh’s portrait is preserved in the games, and his portrait is featured throughout the game.
