The score of the Clemson and Louisville game was close throughout but the Cardinals escaped with a 33-31 victory. Kentucky’s offense was led by D.J. Uiagalelei, who had his best game of the season. The junior quarterback finished 18-30 for 220 yards and three touchdowns, but he was also sacked twice. B.T. Potter added three more points with a 40-yard field goal. The Cards were led by Trenton Simpson’s 10 tackles. He also blocked two fourth downs.
Louisville and Clemson tied the game at 17 in the second quarter, but Clemson put on a show in the fourth quarter. Kobe Pace rushed for 12 yards and Kai Uiagalelei completed two passes of 17 and 46 yards for a touchdown. The score was 30-24. The Cards are off to a 2-0 start and will host Syracuse in the College Football Playoff semifinals on Nov. 13 at noon.
The Cardinals had the ball inside the Clemson five-yard line with about a minute left. But, the Brent Venables unit made a key stop to hold the Tigers in the game. The Tigers also got Beaux Collins his first 100-yard receiving game. The senior wide receiver logged six catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. A defensive standout was another highlight of the game.
The Cardinals went on the offensive during the first half, going 75 yards in six plays. A touchdown run by Jalen Mitchell from 26 yards up the middle was the game-winning play. Despite the score of the Clemson and Louisville game, the Tigers haven’t gotten a win in their road games this season. Besides, the Cardinals have won the past seven games by three points. Their first win against the team since 2014 came against an underperforming Clemson defense, but a loss against a lesser opponent, a bad year for the Tigers, and a lack of consistency in the defense.
The second half was a tense one with both teams trying to win. A Louisville touchdown capped off a three-point drive to end the game. The Cardinals’ final possession ended with a 30-yard field goal from the 44 yard line. While Louisville had a good showing overall, it was a tough game for them to lose on the road. The winner was the ACC and the Cardinals’ third consecutive win.
Despite both teams playing to win, both teams have lost recently. This season’s matchup, despite the fact that Clemson has the better record, has a much more favorable outcome than the first. They both need to win the ACC to stay in the top spot. While Louisville is trying to make the playoffs, Clemson hopes to advance to bowl eligibility.
