When did the Star Wars land at Disneyland open? The answer is “not long after it opened.” The park’s CEO, Bob Iger, announced the addition of new themed lands at Disneyland and Hollywood Studios. Disney fans immediately wanted to know when and where these lands would be located. In addition to the land’s theme, the new lands will feature backstage locations from the films. Here’s what we know about the new lands.

Star Tours
When Walt Disney World opened the new theme park, it was the first time the attraction was renamed. Disney had already opened Captain EO, a ride based on the original Star Wars movies. But they wanted something more to the ride than a standard thrill ride. So they approached George Lucas about the idea of building a Star Wars land. George Lucas approved the purchase of four military-grade flight simulators, and Imagineers worked on the design and construction of the attraction.
A rumor is that the attraction will have a sequence on Hoth prior to Episode V. This reveals that the original idea for the attraction was to use tauntauns or wampas, but Lucas insisted on Imperial walkers. He also suggested that the Empire would not even think twice about Hoth after skirmishing with the Rebels. This has led to the question of “when was Hoth discovered?” in a number of works.
Frontierland
Disney has announced plans to replace Frontierland with Star Wars Land. The new land will be located in Big Thunder Ranch, and will include backstage locations from the movies. This is not to say that Mickey’s Toontown will be eliminated. Instead, it’s simply a temporary home for a popular franchise. There’s no opening date for the new area yet, but the park is expected to break ground in early 2016.
To create space for the new land, Disney has removed the western-themed area of the park, which was previously home to the Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue. Backstage buildings will also be moved. This move will remove a tranquil area, but the Star Wars land will make up for the space. The addition of this new land will allow Disneyland to expand its park’s capacity and reach even further. Despite the loss of the popular Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, the Disney corporation will continue to expand the park’s overall reach and capacity, enabling more guests to visit.
Millennium Falcon
The Millennium Falcon is a spaceship, and guests board the ship in groups of six. On the front row, two pilots sit, while two gunners and engineers sit behind them. The empty seats are not activated and will not affect your ability to fly the ship. The Pilot controls the ship’s left and right movement. The Gunners and Engineers are on the other row, pressing buttons to shoot down enemies.
The queue for the Millennium Falcon begins at Ohnaka Transport Solutions, a life-sized replica of the famous spacecraft. Guests enter through the “space garage” on catwalks that go up the side of the ship. During the queue, guests view the iconic cockpit, complete with Porg nests in the rafters and cleverly repurposed droids. Then, they must wait for the “boarding color call” and enter the iconic cockpit.
Black Spire Outpost
When a new attraction debuted at Disneyland, Star Wars Land replaced Black Spire Outpost as the most popular attraction. The Black Spire Outpost features the street markets from Marrakesh, Morocco. The shops are part retail, part show, with colorful backstories and proprietors from the Star Wars universe. Visitors can also find a variety of off-planet Star Wars merchandise at Disneyland, Disney World, and other theme parks.
In addition to being the new name for the area, the park is home to the Batuu planet and the Resistance supply post, which features an eclectic selection of Rebel Alliance merchandise. Guests can also enjoy a stop at Resistance Supply, located near the ancient ruins. First Order Cargo, meanwhile, is a temporary First Order post. It offers clothing and souvenirs from the infamous Batuu base.
