A warlock’s dps spec should be chosen carefully. Depending on the character’s role, Fel Concentration, Fel Stamina, or a combination of both, may be better than the other three. For best results, choose the spec that maximizes your primary stats and makes the most sense for your playing style. This guide covers the differences between these four dps specs.
Table of Contents
Fel Concentration
This build is best for raiding, when you’re facing high threat and want to use your spells in a more effective way. It sacrifices a few skills (Shapeshift, Shadow Embrace, and Demonic Sacrifice) for extra damage and the chance to cast DoTs. However, this tradeoff is worth it, as you’ll be able to do more damage with a lower mana cost.
If you’re playing a raiding warlock, you can also take this spec. This build relies heavily on increased Spell Critical Strike, but you can swap some points from Fel Concentration into Suppression instead. This skill is better in raids, because it affects only Affliction spells, while Shadow Bolt is unaffected by it. Fel Concentration also makes your weapons and armor more durable.
There are many reasons to spec in Fel Concentration. Its resiliency and survivability make it a solid spec for endgame raid content. You can also use Impsy, who lives in Felwood, to play Warlock. The warlock can get to Kroshius’ infernal core through Impsy. Then, take your time and enjoy the ride.
Fel Stamina
Fel stamina is a high-damage dps spec that is primarily used by Warlocks. The spells in this spec are often used to deal massive amounts of damage and have a long cooldown. Fel stamina warlocks can often be one of the first to annihilate low health targets and the damage they do is great in bursts. Fel stamina warlocks can use both Shadow Bolt and Death Claw as well as damage over time spells.
A Felguard build involves using Shadowbolt, Immolate, Life Tap, and Drain Life. The spells will be highly useful, and Shadow Bolt is the best ability to spam. If you can get the chance, use Shadow Bolt and Improved Shadow Bolt to annihilate mobs. Fel stamina will also make you very difficult to kill by melee.
Fel Intellect
If you want to make the most of your dps spec as a warlock, Fel Intellect is your best choice. This spec allows you to cast spells that deal damage and restore mana to your party. It is also great for tanking since you can use healing abilities when you’re down. But before you get carried away and start speccing your warlock, you should know what Fel Intellect has to offer.
Fel Domination: This talent is particularly useful for those Warlocks who are aiming for the “Demonic Sacrifice/Ruin” build. Fel Domination gives players a “FelDom trick” by allowing them to summon a voidwalker right before a boss encounter. These voidwalkers will deal consistent, unavoidable damage to enemies and will also allow you to sacrifice your boss if you want. Plus, with the Fel Domination talent, you can summon a succubus, which will give you an extra shield and buff.
Grim Reach
If you’re in the hunt for the best warlock dps spec, look no further than Grim Reach. This spec boosts damage and survivability with its powerful DoTs. Affliction Warlocks will be happy to know that this talent also decreases the cast time of Destruction spells. This is especially important for raid groups with a Shadow Priest. Pyroclasm is another viable option for warlock dps, since it gives a low stun chance when AOEing. Moreover, this talent unlocks Master Demonologist, a powerful spell that can increase your Voidwalker’s damage.
If you’re not planning to do a lot of raiding, this spec is a great choice. It provides decent damage even for new warlocks, as well as many vital raid synergies. In addition, it has a lot of talent options to suit any budget. The main disadvantage of this spec is that it can’t fit more than one Warlock in a 40-man raid. If you’re looking to play the warlock in a dungeon or 20-man raid, you’re better off choosing a more reasonable spec. This spec also has a few mandatory talents and optional ones. You can also decide on the order in which to equip these.
