While most pheasants and chicks nest within fifty feet of a mowed field’s edge, other species, such as hens, will raise broods in an area where the alfalfa is uncut. In this case, predators may increase the chances of the birds finding a nest and increasing their number. Hence, mowing the area around a hen’s or chick’s nest in a mowed pattern will help protect pheasants and chick’s.
